Reasons to shop from us

Hi! My name is Philippe Dewailly. Welcome to my website where you will find unique creations of contemporary and Mokume-Gane Jewelry. I have handmade each piece personally, always keeping in mind to make an object where beauty and quality are the main concepts.

While the word "Contemporary" does not need an explanation, I realize that some of you may not be familiar with the word "Mokume-Gane."

So what is Mokume-Gane?

Mokume Gane (translation: wood grained metal) is a technique which dates back for three centuries. It was developed by Japanese sword maker, Denbei Shoami (1651-1728), to decorate the swords of Samurais. The technique consists of bonding at least two layers of different colored metals through heat and pressure. The heat causes the molecules to become agitated and to intermingle between the interfaces of the metal sheets. A new molecular structure is created between the metal layers, forming one homogenous mass. All of the art consists of carving, twisting and forging the metals together to obtain unique and contrasting patterns. Mokume Gane can be used in metalsmithing, jewelry making, the creation of hollowware, as well as a wide variety of other applications.

Over the time, I will add more new creations either for sale or just to display custom works done for customers. Please, fill free to contact us if you have any questions regarding an item or if you would like to discuss a custom order.

Thank you for your attention.
